SGS Athletics Academy were victorious at the inaugural Athletics Inter-Colleges Meet held at Wise Campus in May.

The meet was won by SGS College whose victory was only insured by some of the later events held on the day.

For the hosts there were three Gold medals won by Rownita Marston in the Hammer, Discus and Shot-Putt and a double of Gold Medals by middle –distance runner George Marshall in the 800 and 1500.

Tyler Molton won the men’s Hammer competition and Adrian Nembhard triumphed in the High Jump.

Back on the track Mikkel Bassue won the 400 metres in a time of 50.5 seconds, while Abdirahaman Abdi also won Gold in the 400 metre hurdles.

Success

Speaking after the event, Head Coach of the Athletics Academy at SGS, Andrea Garcia-Lock spoke of her delight at the first athletics meet hosted at Wise Campus.

“It was great to be able to put on an event at home, which has been a goal since starting the academy in 2010.  It was a great atmosphere with a full programme across the afternoon and showcased the talent we have at the college in the variety of events that Athletics covers.  It was also a great achievement to win this event for the first time.

“A huge thank you must go to all the staff and students involved that helped us put this event on and helped us to run it on the day.  I must also thank all the officials for volunteering of their time.  Without their help we would not have been able to run the event.

“We saw some great performances by our own athletes, personal bests and also athletes stepping in from rugby, cricket, basketball, netball and the American Football academies, where we saw some great performances from some hidden talent.”
