Women’s Rugby wins Academy of the Year

In what turned out to the most sought after collective award on offer at the Sports Awards, the Academy of the Year 2017 was deservedly awarded the Women’s Rugby Academy.

On the night the Award was collected by scrum-half and sports journalism student Maddy Escott on behalf of the team on the night along with the Head Coach of the Women’s Rugby Academy Matt Belbin.

Speaking after the event Matt spoke about being granted this honour.

“As a team and academy, we are delighted to have won this award. It’s the cherry on the cake after what has been our most successful season yet.

“The number of international players we have produced has been outstanding and the team success has been fantastic. Now we look forward to getting back into pre-season and starting again working towards further success.”
